Riders on Calcasieu Parish Transit will be paying more this week. The system's first fare increase in 9 years went into effect Sunday. The parish transit is different from Lake Charles City Transit system. The smaller buses travel beyond the city routes, offering door to door pickup and drop off services.
Only for residents who qualify for the income regulated program can ride on Calcasieu Parish Transit. The fare increase ranges from 10 cents to $1. The biggest increase affects adults in the Jobs Access and Reverse Commute programs. Those riders previously didn't pay anything for the transit, but now they will have to pay a $1.50.
