LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -McNeese State's Patrick Richard will get his shot to play in the NBA.
While the Carencro native didn't hear his name called for Thursday night's NBA draft, the Detroit Pistons have invited Richard to play on their summer league team.
Richard will depart from Lafayette on July 5th and fly out with the team to Orlando. This year, the Pistons will participate in the Orlando Magic Summer League from July 9th-13th. The event usually consists of prospects from about eight different NBA teams. Depending on how he plays, Richard may have have the opportunity to sign a contract with one of those organizations. Joe Dumars, former McNeese State star and NBA Hall of Famer, is the Pistons' President of Basketball Operations.
Richard, who was named this season's SLC and Louisiana Player of the Year, averaged 17.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He finished his college career as the Cowboys' 12th leading scorer in school history.
