The effort to build a memorial to a lake area hero got a big boost from a generous donation. The Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation has donated $5,000 to the First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana.
The donation will be used in support of a project to erect a statue in honor of Fournet, who died saving others in Vietnam.
Lt. Fournet, who was from Lake Charles, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in April of 1970.
Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach is co-chair of the committee. "We thank the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation for the wonderful donation which will be used for the First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet Memorial. The statue of First Lieutenant Fournet will honor him and all of our veterans who have honorably served our country."
