Wednesday Afternoon Headlines

This is Cynthia Arceneaux from the KPLC Newsroom. 

Will a college education soon be out of reach for our children? It's getting really tough! Tuition is going up at Louisiana colleges and universities. On top of that, student loan rates could be doubling from 3.2 percent to 6.4 percent. We'll have all the details today at five.

Also today, the sad story of a 12-week-old boxer puppy, named "Rocky" left near death. He was discovered in Opelousas over the weekend. But a local good Samaritan picked him up…and saved his life.

And we've gotten a slight reprieve from the triple digit heat we were experiencing earlier this week. But you still should exercise caution when out in the heat today. Wade Hampton will have your complete weather forecast.

Coming up tonight on 7 news at Six Sports, we'll tell you about a big change in the Drew Brees/New Orleans Saints contract negotiations.     A liquified natural gas export terminal to be built at the Port of Lake Charles is a step closer to reality. At Monday's port meeting, the board of directors approved the signing of  a 30-year ground lease with Magnolia LNG. Board members said it's a positive sign that Magnolia LNG is willing to take the next step - from lease option to actual lease. Construction on the Magnolia facility is expected to begin later this year, bringing 100 construction jobs and 70 permanent jobs ...
