LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Sen. Johns gave the Calcasieu Council on Aging and others updates on legislative session. Johns said they succeeded in preventing Elderly Affairs to be moved to DHH.
Johns said they passed a law that will greatly help grandparents to have access to their grandchildren in cases where custodial parent won't let them see grandchild.
Johns gave a rundown of issues of interest to seniors and retirees, talking about new law that allows retired teachers to go back to teaching if they earn no more than 25 percent of their retirement benefit.
He also talked about cutbacks and downsizing of state government aimed at stretching dollars and making most efficient use of tax dollars.
