LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Local Xavier University alumni are making it easier for local students who want to attend their alma mater.
About 300 people were in attendance for the Xavier Jazz Brunch held at the Lake Charles Civic Center. It's the second year for the event where alumni raise money for student scholarships through donations and a silent auction.
The Lake Charles Xavier University Alumni Chapter said they are always pleased to help young people continue their education.
"It's a dream come true. Because we know that the other colleges provide a quality education... don't get me wrong, but Xavier has such a family orientation. So whenever someone expresses an interest to attend my university I am so excited. And just to be able to give them a hand to provide helpful information," said Cynthia Clay Guillory, LC Xavier Alumni Chapter President.
With the money raised the group hopes to help 11 students in Southwest Louisiana attend Xavier University.
