Safety first at LSP Camp

WESTLAKE, LA (KPLC) -

The Louisiana State Police and Troopers hosted a camp that taught kids how to put out fires and how to ride a bike safely.

The camp was held at PPG's Porter Hall in Westlake. The free camp offered firefighting, team building, first aid, and classes on nature and the environment.

"One if the first things we teach them when they get here is team building, and it's important to be able to work together with others in life and that's one of the first lessons they learn here at camp," LSP spokesperson Sgt. James Anderson said. "It's something they can take with them throughout their lives."

The camp will last until Friday, June 22.

The Saharan dust has diminished a lot more since yesterday and the particle numbers are down. We are still in a moderate zone, so you should still use caution if you have any allergies or breathing issues. Throughout the day, the clouds will be clearing, and the rain should stay away from us. There will still be a lot of humidity in place and hot temperatures.  By the afternoon, there should be lots of sunshine. That will increase the temperatures more.
