(RNN) – The New York Times and other media outlets are reporting that plans are being made to replace Today show host Ann Curry less than one year after she took the lead anchor helm.

According to unnamed sources who are said to be in the know, NBC executives have been discussing a different assignment for Curry. Discussions are expected to be completed before the Olympics air on the network in July.

The talk is said to center on the morning show's drop in ratings. Today has consistently ranked No. 1. That is, until this spring when it dropped behind Good Morning America, helmed by Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos.

According to the Times, the network has not named a possible replacement; however, anchor Savannah Guthrie frequently fills in for Curry.

Today viewer Nicole Morris tweeted her concerns Wednesday.

"I enjoy the Today show, but if they bring in Sarah Palin for a while to replace Ann Curry, I'm out."
