Tuesday Afternoon Headlines - KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Tuesday Afternoon Headlines

This is Cynthia Arceneaux from the KPLC Newsroom.

Coming up today at five, Chief Meteorologist Wade Hampton will update you on the latest tropical storm out there... Tropical Storm Chris. But thankfully, it won't be a threat to us.

And they call it the "Health Insurance Tax" and it would be put on insurance companies. It's part of the Federal Health Care Act enacted last year. But small businesses in the lake area are upset about what a strain it will be on its companies. Today at five, we'll tell you about a move to repeal the tax.

And what does the future hold for the U.S.S. Orleck?  The ship is still seeking a permanent home.

Today we were on the edge of the trough of low pressure that brought numerous showers to us yesterday. Because we were farther away we saw less rain; but still some scattered showers were around. These showers will come to an end by this evening leaving us with partly cloudy skies and a warm muggy night. We may see a few very isolated showers develop on Wednesday; but the chance for rain will only be about 20 percent.

Coming up tonight on 7 News at Six Sports, Drew Brees has some strong words for the NFL's Bounty-Gate investigation. The Dave Simmons/McNeese State basketball camp is up and running. We'll hear from new head coach Johnny Jones on his return to his alma mater. Plus we'll look ahead to tonight's Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

Find out the latest today on 7 News.

For the rest of the day, there will be more storms and showers that pop up in the afternoon. This is the new normal with the heat during the afternoon, and the extra moisture in the air. Not everyone will see rain, but if you are caught under one of these showers, you will likely see some heavy rainfall at times. Temperatures will still be hot today, especially where there is no rain. Highs will be in the lower 90s. Tonight, the rain should come to an end.
