Wednesday Afternoon Headlines - KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Wednesday Afternoon Headlines

This is Cynthia Arceneaux from the KPLC Newsroom.

An 80 year-old-man accused of dozens of child sex crimes learned his fate today in a Lake Charles courtroom. Today at five, we'll tell you how many years Charles Bergeron of Westlake was sentenced to.

And a man who allegedly murdered his grandmother has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for unrelated crimes. In February 2009, Carl Webb allegedly murdered his grandmother, Helen Webb, in Topsy. No word on when he will go to trial on the murder charge.

And we'll update you on that plane that had to make an emergency landing in Lake Charles last night. The flight got the official go-ahead around 3 a.m. this morning, and they were well on their way to New York.

As expected today we saw some scattered showers and storms develop across portions of Southwest Louisiana; these will come to an end shortly after sunset. Tonight will be warm and muggy with lows in the mid 70s and maybe some patchy fog first thing in the morning especially in places that got rain today

Coming up to night on 7 News at Six Sports, we'll have an update on the Saints/Drew Brees contract battle, which has taken an interesting turn. We'll also look back at last night's Game One of the NBA Finals between the Heat and Thunder, as well as the Astros late night with the Giants. Plus, it's Wednesday night, time for another edition of the 7 Sportsperson of the Week.

Those stories and more today on Live at Five and 7 News at Six.
