Cecchini, Mets agree to deal

NEW YORK - The Mets have agreed to terms with shortstop Gavin Cecchini, their first-round draft pick.

The 18-year-old Barbe High School senior, was taken 12th overall by the Mets in the amateur draft on Monday night. He was given a $2.3 million signing bonus, $250,000 less than what is slotted for that pick under the new collective bargaining agreement.

Under the agreement, a team's bonus slots for the first 10 rounds of the draft are totaled, and an organization exceeding the total faces a tax and the possibility of losing future picks.
