Poker Run raises more than $25K for battered children

For area bikers it was a day to hit the road and benefit a local organization. The 4h annual Poker Run for BAAK was held Saturday. BAAK stands for "Battered and Abused Kids of Southwest Louisiana."

Bikers traveled around the lake area and ended at Micci's Bar and Lounge on Ryan Street in Lake Charles for music, food, raffles and a silent auction.

Organizer of the event Bob Redmon says he wanted to pick a local organization that no other club or group has benefited yet.

"Arbor House is the only safe haven for kids in our five parish area," said Redmon. "With the budget cuts from the state, federal government and everything else, four years ago we found Arbor House, we kind of like adopted them because no one has ever targeted the abused child in our area. And we wanted to step up and do something for the kids, help them live a normal life, let them know that people do care for them."

Saturday afternoon more than $25,000 dollars had been raised. All proceeds will go toward Arbor House for at-risk children.

Nice day, despite the clouds on WednesdayNice day, despite the clouds on Wednesday

Tonight, skies will be clear and we will have little to no chance for rain. Tonight will be much cooler. We had a cold front come through early this morning and that decreased the dew point and cleared the sky of any clouds. This will allow temperatures to fall. South of I-10 will be in the mid to upper 30s, while north of I-10 will be in the freezing temperatures. As we go through this week, the weather will be nothing less than perfect!
