Thursday Afternoon Headlines

This is Cynthia Arceneaux from the KPLC Newsroom.

Former presidential candidate John Edwards was found not guilty on one of six campaign fraud charges today, and the jury could not reach a verdict on the other counts, leading the judge to declare a mistrial on them.

A large steroid ring was busted today in Jennings. 24-year-old Regan Chase Benoit of Hathway is the only one in jail for now. But more arrests could be coming.

And changes to Louisiana's abortion law. Now doctors will be required to ask women if they want to hear the fetal heartbeat and see an image of the baby before an abortion is performed.

A cold front will move through Friday morning and once it moves through the humidity will drop a little. There could be a few showers around until the front moves through; but the worst of the rain is over.

Big night in sports! The LSU softball team opens College World Series play today against #1 Cal. The LSU baseball team is only one day out from the NCAA Regionals. Hear how the Tigers' chemistry compares to that of the 2009 national championship team. Plus, Saints assistant coach Joe Vitt says Drew Brees should be back with the team by training camp. And, the Louisiana High School Rodeo Finals returns to Burton Coliseum for the first time since 2001!

Those stories coming your way on Live at Five and 7 News at Six.
