There are several events planned today for Memorial Day in SWLA. Here is a listing of some of them.
Avenue of Flags: A display of more than 842 American flags has been set up at Orange Grove Graceland Cemetery on Broad St. in Lake Charles. There will also be a ceremony starting at 9 a.m. Monday. Volunteers are asked to come out and help take the display down, around 5 p.m.
Final memorial ceremony: In Iota at 2 p.m., a ceremony will be held for PFC Elroy LeJeune at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Cemetery. There will be taps, a 21 gun salute and a presentation of the flag. Private LeJeune was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge in 1945.
Military casket flags display: Starting at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Sulphur VFW and American Legion members and volunteers will put up a display of military casket flags at Roselawn Cemetery. Roselawn is just off I-10 at Ruth Street in Sulphur. They will also put up miniature flags at other cemeteries.
