The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

On Tuesday May 22 at approximately 10:30 a.m. C.A.T Team Detective Sgt. Stuart Henderson stopped a vehicle on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 27 mile marker for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop while speaking to the driver, Viet Huna Nguyen, 31, of Marrero, LA, Sgt. Henderson smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Sgt. Henderson allowed his trained and certified drug detection K9 "Tonja" to conduct a free air sniff around the vehicle. Tonja provided a positive response to the odor of a controlled substance. A subsequent search revealed approximately 20 pounds of high grade marijuana known as "hydro" in the vehicle's trunk.

The marijuana was packaged in 14 vacuum-sealed plastic bags that were stored in a cardboard box and black duffle bag. Estimated street value is $104,000.

Nguyen was booked into the CCC for possession of CDS I marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Judge Ron Ware set his bond at $35,000.
