DeQuincy man stands trial for 2007 murder charge

Opening statements have begun in the first-degree murder trial of Amos Maddox.

Maddox is accused of brutally attacking a 53-year-old DeQuincy woman on Dec. 30, 2007. Authorizes said the victim was seriously injured and severely traumatized.

Maddox was also charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated rape and theft over $500.

In 2009, Maddox was sent to the state hospital for three months to help decide if he was mentally competent to stand trial.
