The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish
Sheriff's Office:
On May 21, C.A.T. Team Detective
Cpl. Chris Johnson stopped a vehicle on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 21 for
a traffic violation. Hieu Xuan Ngo, 51, of
Westminster, CA, a nationalized citizen from Vietnam,
claimed to be traveling from California to North Carolina via Houston,
TX.
During the traffic stop, Cpl.
Johnson smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Cpl. Johnson allowed his trained and certified drug detection K9 "Sonja"
to conduct a free air sniff around the vehicle. K9 Sonja provided a
positive response to the odor of a controlled substance coming from the
vehicle.
A subsequent search revealed
approximately 30 pounds of high grade marijuana known as "hydro" in the
vehicle's trunk. It was packaged in two large black trash bags and
a white trash bag that was secreted in a bag
containing Ngo's clothes. The marijuana was packaged in 28 vacuum sealed clear
plastic bags.
Ngo was booked into
the Calcasieu Correctional Center for possession of CDS I marijuana with
the intent to distribute. The marijuana has a street value of
approximately $156,000.
