Josh Ledet success putting Westlake on the map

WESTLAKE, LA (KPLC) -

Week after week, support for Westlake's Josh Ledet continues to grow during his journey on American Idol.

Mayor of Westlake, Dan Cupit said the excitement is felt everywhere in the community. And with Josh's hometown visit broadcasted on the show Wednesday, May 16, Westlake is getting some attention statewide and nationally.

"Really the only way to describe it is kind of a shock to the community that he's done that through his talent and efforts," Cupit said. "Our community has really pulled behind Josh and that's the way we're heading right now. What can we do for him."

Cupit said he also sought support from other areas in the state.

"I asked the Louisiana Municipal Association out of Baton Rouge to notify all the mayors in the state to vote and encourage their communities to vote it and dog-gone-it has worked," Cupit said.

Hoping a hometown boy can bring home the title of the American Idol, but win or lose, he's already a star.

"It just makes you proud of your school system, city and everything and so it all couldn't have been done if it weren't for Josh. So we're proud of him, we're pulling for him. Got a few more weeks to go, but we're going to see it work," Mayor Cupit said.
