LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Anti-Crime Tactics and Training Team is among the best in the state and they have the awards to prove it.
The officers competed against 13 other agencies at the annual Louisiana Police Officer's Association Conference last week. Of the six categories, Calcasieu Parish took home five awards, including overall first place in the competition.
The elite group of officers are the ones called to control and safely manage high-risk calls like hostage situations and search and arrest warrants. Using their every day on the job skills and training they were able to take home the trophies.
"It's always tough. It's always a challenge. Every year it's always housed in a different place somewhere around the state and everybody brings something a little different. So you never know really what to expect. You try to train for anything and everything you can possibly imagine they would throw at you. Try to get in best shape you can possibly become and you represent the best you can," explained Lt. Michael Walker, CPSO ACTT Team.
In addition to the overall win, the team took home first place awards in both the shotgun and obstacle course categories and second place honors in the sniper and patrol rifle categories.
