LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry announced Monday his intention to run for the District 3 seat, which will soon include the Lake Charles area.

Landry, a Republican congressman from New Iberia, will presumably face U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany in the November primary.

Landry made the announcement in Youngsville Monday evening in front of a crowd of supporters.

Boustany, from Lafayette, currently represents the 7th congressional district, which will soon dissolve with the 2012 redistricting plan. The new 3rd district will stretch from the Texas border to Iberia and St. Martin Parishes.

Landry is scheduled to appear on 7 News Sunrise Tuesday morning with John Bridges to talk more about the newly created district and his run for office.
