The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

On May 12, around 12:15 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a local casino hotel in reference to a 3-year-old and a 9 month old child being left unattended in a hotel room for several hours.

When deputies arrived, they were advised the hotel operator received numerous calls from the 3 year old child staying in a room registered to family member, Kayla N. Barbery, 24, of Lake Charles.

After further investigation, deputies located Barbery and transported her to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office for questioning. When questioned by detectives, Barbery confirmed she left the two small children unattended for over 12 hours. They were found by casino employees in a hallway in the hotel.

She was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 2 counts of child desertion.

The Department of Child and Family Services are investigating this complaint as well.

Judge Wilford Carter set her bond at $500.

CPSO Detective Trey Thomas is the lead investigator on this case.
