SAN ANTONIO, TX (KPLC)-McNeese State's softball team dropped their first game of the Southland Conference Tournament here this evening in a 5-2 loss to top seed Texas State. The Cowgirls will play the 7 p.m. winner of the Texas A&M-CC/Sam Houston State game at 9:30 p.m. tonight.
The Cowgirls picked up four hits with one apiece coming from Claire Terracina, Alanna DiVittorio, Ashley Modzelewski and Dani Price. DiVittorio and Modzelewski both had extra base hits with a home run and double, respectively.
Tiffany Denham fell to 14-11 on the year with the complete game loss. Denham gave up five runs on 12 hits, walked one and struck out one.
McNeese (34-20) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI double to right field by Modzelewski that scored Lauren Langner. Langner reached base after being hit by a pitch.
The Bobcats answered with two runs in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Back to back singles by Megan Parten and Jordan Masek scored the Bobcat runs.
DiVittorio tied the game at two all in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to centerfield. The long ball gives her a team high seven on the year.
Texas State regained the lead and took a 3-2 lead in the sixth on a two out single by Anna Hernandez that scored Coralee Ramirez for the go-ahead run. The Bobcats added two more runs in the top of the seventh on a two run home run by the SLC's "Player of the Year" in Chandler Hall to extend the lead to 5-2.
