More than 50 cyclists participated in the American Red Cross Tour du Rouge through Southwest Louisiana Monday.
The 526 mile trek from Houston to New Orleans is raising money and awareness for the American Red Cross.
Red Cross spokesman Cameron Ballentine said Tour du Rouge was a creation after Hurricane Katrina and Rita came through and devastated Louisiana.
"We wanted to help raise awareness of the need to prepare for disasters with hurricane season just around the corner, and we wanted just a fun way to help remember to prepare and remember the devastation, and how it compacted the community and how the red cross was there to help," Ballentine said.
The six day Tour du Rouge wraps up Friday when the riders stop in New Orleans.
