The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

On April 24, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to parking lot on Mount Talbot Street in Lake Charles regarding a report of a suspicious vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they discovered a pick-up truck sitting in the parking lot that appeared to be abandoned.  Upon further investigation, the deputies observed the locking mechanism on the driver's side door of the truck had been punched out and the steering column had been damaged, exposing the wires.

While on scene, Corey D. Spencer, 35, of Lake Charles, arrived and advised deputies that he was the owner of the truck.  Spencer had possession of the truck keys, and the truck's title and registration, but no paperwork indicating he was the owner of the truck.

After further investigation, deputies discovered the truck had been reported stolen a month ago through the Cottonport Police Department.

Spencer was arrested and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with illegal possession of stolen things.

Judge Kent Savoie set his bond at $2,500.

CPSO Detective John D. Casarez is the lead investigator on this case.
