LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - On motion by the defense, the second-degree murder trial of Timothy Dangerfield has been continued until Nov. 5.

Dangerfield is accused of killing Shacrista Nicole Jones, 22, in September 2011. Dangerfield himself was shot by police when he allegedly refused to put down his gun.

Also as requested by the defense, Dangerfield will appear in court May 16 to change his plea to not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity.

That means his attorneys will try to show that, if Dangerfield did what he is accused of, he did not know right from wrong due to some mental impairment.

Dangerfield has added  out-of-state attorney Sidney Tall to his defense team.
