Driver was impaired in Calcasieu crash

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Toxicology results revealed that driver, Megan Schexnider, was impaired on drugs during a two-vehicle accident on Highway 171 bridge in Calcasieu Parish.

The accident happened on the northbound portion of the 171 bridge on April 23.

According to State Police a van driven by Leyla Austin had a flat tire on Highway 171 northbound. The van passenger Vincent Austin got out of the van to change the tire. A car driven by Megan Schexnider rear-ended the van and collided with the van and Vincent Austin.

Vincent Austin was declared dead at the scene. Leyla Austin received moderate injuries and was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Leyla Austin and Dalensia Rose were wearing seatbelts during the crash.

Dalensia Rose, 13, died at a local hospital on April 23.

Schexnider received moderate injuries and was transported to Women and Children's Hospital.

She was arrested on June 1 for two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of careless operation and one count of driving under suspension.

Schexnider bond is set at $355,500.
