Rayne (KPLC) - A local woman has been arrested and charged with four counts of negligent homicide after a trailer fire killed four of her children late Saturday.
Shaqueta McDade, 26, is believed to have left her children, ages 2, 5, 7, and 8, unattended in their mobile home at 1506A Edith St. in Rayne, police say.
Around midnight Saturday, Rayne police and fire rescuers responded to the blaze at the mobile home. Inside the razed structure, firefighters discovered the children's bodies. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Acadia Parish coroner's office and the state fire marshal's office are assisting in the investigation.
