LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Boogie on the Block, an event organized by McNeese University students, brought the community together for autism awareness.
All the proceeds from the benefit went to the St. Nicholas Center for Early Intervention.
"We wanted to benefit a local center, a local cause and we thought the St. Nicholas Center was the best candidate that we could impact with the resources we have to benefit them," Event Marketing Coach Matt Lundmark said.
With more and more cases of children being diagnosed with autism each year, Lundmark said it's a good way to get the word out and more people informed.
"A lot of people don't even know that the center is even there," he said. "Parents who have children with autism have an option that they do have a chance of learning and developing like any other child."
The event took place along the Lakeshore Promenade behind the Civic Center in Lake Charles where there was a BBQ-cookoff, live music, silent auctions and fun games for all.
