BATON ROUGE - McNeese State's softball team dropped a 2-1 non-conference game to No. 23 LSU here Tuesday night despite outhitting the Tigers 7-5 and leaving 12 baserunners stranded. The loss drops the Cowgirls to 25-13 on the season while the Tigers improve to 30-13).
Claire Terracina led the Cowgirls with two hits while Alanna DiVittorio had the only extra base hit for the Cowgirls with a double. Pinch hitter Tiffany Denham had the RBI for the Cowgirls who singled to centerfield in the seventh to score Ashley Modzelewski who reached base on a single to second.
LSU scored a run in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead before the Cowgirls scored their run in the seventh.
Cowgirl freshman Bianca Lilly picked up her first complete game of her career going the distance and giving up five hits, both runs and struck out two. The loss drops Lilly to 1-1 on the year.
McNeese will return to Southland Conference play this weekend when the Cowgirls travel to first place Texas State for a two game series. The series will begin with a 6 p.m. game Friday night and will conclude with a 2 p.m. game Saturday.
