Alexandria airport promises to stay open

Alexandria, LA (AP) - Even if the Air Force dismantles a unit of air traffic controllers who run the Alexandria International Airport control tower, airport officials say they plan to keep the airport running 24 hours day to support military and commercial operations.
Airmen with the Louisiana Air National Guard 259th Air Traffic Control Squadron have operated the control tower at AEX, a hub of commercial and military flight operations in Central Louisiana, since 1997. But the Air Force plans to disband the 110-airman unit and transfer the airmen to other U.S. bases to support the Air Force's drone program.
Jon Grafton, the airpark executive director in Alexandria said that the airport would remain open 24 hours a day even if the Air Force gets its way.
