Library showcases "Becoming Louisiana: Path to Statehood"

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Louisiana is celebrating 200 years of statehood and the Calcasieu Parish Library wants to get people involved.

Central Library is the first to present, "Becoming Louisiana: Path to Statehood." - It's a traveling exhibit presented by the Louisiana Bicentennial Commission.

The display documents the roles Louisiana's unique geographical and cultural history. It consists of a series of 10 fabric panels displaying images and tells the story of early Louisiana history and it's path to becoming a state.

"Everyone in the state learns Louisiana history in the eighth grade but most adults have forgotten all the things you've learned in 8th grade history and this is a nice reminder of the important events that has happened through our state's history and it helps to appreciate the development through the ages of our state," said Marilyn Bonnette, librarian at Central Library.

This is the first of many events about Louisiana's Bicentennial coming to a library near you. For more information you can click here or call 337-721-7116.
