Hunter booked in shooting hiker

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a 63-year-old turkey hunter has been booked in a shooting that injured a hiker.
Enforcement division spokesman Adam Einck says Jerry Merrill of Flatwoods was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Jail on one count of negligent injury after allegedly mistaking a hiker for a turkey Thursday morning.
Einck says the hiker was treated at the Red Dirt Federal Refuge for shotgun pellet wounds.
Negligent injury carries up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.
It was not clear whether Merrill had an attorney.
