LAKE CHARLES (KPLC)- McNeese State's softball team picked up a 4-0 Southland Conference shutout victory here Friday night to improve to 22-10 overall and 6-1 in league play. The loss drops the Mavericks to 12-17 overall and 2-5 in league play.
McNeese collected six hits in the game and was led by a 2 for 3 plate appearance from sophomore Kim Kennedy. Junior Marissa Koetting led the Cowgirls with two RBI's and put the Cowgirls on the scoreboard first with a solo home run in the second. The home run is Koetting's fourth of the season.
McNeese scored three more runs in the third for the 4-0 lead which held up throughout the game. Katie Roux led the inning off with a single to the shortstop. Claire Terracina also singled and later scored on a RBI single by Lauren Langner. Langner scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Koetting for a 3-0 Cowgirl lead. A double to left center by Kennedy scored Alanna DiVittorio for the fourth run of the game. DiVittorio reached base on a walk.
Meagan Bond improved to 14-6 on the year with the shutout. The shutout is her fifth of the season. Bond ended the game, giving up three hits and striking out 11, one shy of her career high.
The teams will conclude the series with a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
