LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Louisiana-Lafayette has named alumnus Garry Brodhead as its new women's basketball coach.
Athletics Director Scott Famer, who announced the hiring on Monday, says Brodhead's coaching experience and his passion for the university make him a "tremendous fit."
Brodhead, who graduated from Louisiana-Lafayette in 1980, has coached women's college basketball for 16 seasons, most recently as associated head coach at McNeese State. Early in his coaching career he won a Louisiana state high school girls' title with Tuerlings Catholic.
He moved up to the college ranks as a graduate assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette in the 1994-95 season. Brodhead says he's excited to return to a university to which he has special ties. He will take over for Errol Rogers, who resigned last month after five seasons.
