Baton Rouge, LA (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal and House Speaker Chuck Kleckley have become targets of recall efforts as a result of Jindal's proposals to revamp public education.
Calcasieu Parish teacher Angie Bonvillain is one of five teachers who started the recall effort. She says she's fed up. She says no one is listening to teachers.
Jindal and legislative leaders are quickly moving proposals that would make it tougher for teachers to get job protection and would dedicate tax dollars to pay private school tuition.
Recall organizers face a high hurdle on getting sufficient signatures on petitions required to force recall elections. No one has ever successfully gathered enough signatures to trigger a recall election against a statewide or parishwide official in Louisiana.
