HAMMOND, LA (KPLC)- McNeese State's softball team dropped their first Southland Conference game of the season to Southeastern La. here Saturday 4-0 in the final game of the series. McNeese defeated Southeastern La. 8-2 Friday night. The loss drops the Cowgirls to 21-10 overall and 1-5 in league play.
McNeese picked up six hits in the game with one extra base hit. The Cowgirls committed three errors and left eight base runners stranded. Claire Terracina, Lauren Langner, Alanna DiVittorio, Ashely Modzelewski and Stacey Conley all picked up singles. Katie Roux had the only extra base hit with a double.
All the scoring from Southeastern La. came in the fourth inning. The Lady Lions scored their runs on three hits and two Cowgirl errors. Three of the four runs scored were unearned.
Tiffany Denham was on the losing end, falling to 7-4 on the season. Denham pitched a six hit complete game and gave up all four runs and walked two batters.
The Cowgirls will travel to Louisiana-Monroe for a 4 p.m. non-conference game Tuesday then will return home Wednesday to host nationally ranked Louisiana-Lafayette in a single game at 6 p.m. McNeese will return to Southland Conference play on the weekend when they will host Texas-Arlington at 6 p.m. Friday and at 1 p.m. Saturday.
