HAMMOND-- McNeese State's softball team remained undefeated at 5-0 in Southland Conference play here Friday night with an 8-2 win over Southeastern La. The Cowgirls also improve to 21-9 overall with the win. Southeastern falls to 6-26 on the year and 0-7 in league play.
After Southeastern La. took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, McNeese came back to tie the game in the second on a RBI single up the middle by Claire Terracina that scored Kim Kennedy. A lead off solo homerun by Alanna DiVittorio gave the Cowgirls a 2-1 lead and one they wouldn't give up. The home run is DiVittorio's fourth of the season.
McNeese added three more runs in the fourth with one run coming off a Southeastern La. error then a two RBI single by DiVittorio that scored pinch runner Laura Neil and Terracina for a 5-1 Cowgirl lead.
McNeese tacked on two more runs in the fifth to extend its lead to 7-1 on a two run home run by Kim Kennedy, also her fourth of the year, scored Ashley Modzelewski.
After Southeastern La. scored a run in the sixth, the Cowgirls closed out its scoring with a solo home run to left by Dani Price for an 8-2 lead. The home run was Prices second of the season.
Southeastern La. threatened to score in the seventh with bases loaded but Cowgirl starter ended the threat by striking out Kelsey Nichols to end the game. Bond ended the game with seven strikeouts and gave up five hits to improve to 13-6 overall.
Terracina led the Cowgirls at the plate, going 4 for 4. DiVittorio was also perfect at the play, going 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBI's.
Kennedy also had two RBI's and scored two runs to go along with her home run and Price was 2 for 3 with one RBI and scored one run.
