LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's softball team fell 4-0 here Wednesday night to 23rd ranked LSU in a non-conference softball game. The loss drops the Cowgirls to 20-9 overall while LSU improves to 24-8.
McNeese collected four hits with Claire Terracina, Marissa Koetting, Kim Kenndy and Stacy Conley all picking up hits. Terracina led the game off with a triple but the Cowgirls were unable to score her. Conley got the other extra base hit with a double in the seventh but once again the Cowgirls weren't able to score any runs.
LSU scored three runs in the third on two hits and two Cowgirl errors. Allison Falcon scored on a wild pitch and Ashley Applegate scored on an error in an attempt to throw Falcon out at the plate. The other run came from the second error of the inning when Lauren Houston scored the third run of the inning.
The Tigers added a single run in the fifth on a double steal by Ashley Langoni and Falcon. Langoni stole home and Falcon stole second.
Senior Tiffany Denham took the loss for the Cowgirls falling to 7-3 on the year. Denham pitched a complete game and gave up five hits, one walk and struck out four.
Brittany Mack improved to 11-4 on the year with the complete game. Mack gave up four hits, walked two and struck out six.
McNeese will return to Southland Conference play this weekend when they will travel to Southeastern La. for a 6 p.m. game Friday night and a noon game on Saturday.
