Diamond Cowgirls Run-Rule Southern

LAKE CHARLES--   McNeese State's softball team picked up its 20th win of the season here Tuesday night with an 8-0 run-rule shutout victory over Southern to improve to 20-8 on the year.

The Cowgirls picked up eight hits in the game with eight different players getting a hit.  McNeese had two extra base hits with Megan Griffith hitting a double, her first of the season and Claire Terracina hitting her sixth triple of the season.

McNeese will host LSU tonight at 6 p.m.  Petrochem president John Bruney and Cowboy Club president Marc Melancon will throw out the first pitch.

McNeese didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard, scoring two runs in the first inning on a lead off triple by Terracina.  Terracina scored on an error in an attempt by the centerfielder to throw her out at third.  The throw landed in the dugout, sending Terracina home.

The other run came on a RBI by Marissa Koetting that scored Alanna DiVittorio.  DiVittorio reached base on a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring.

McNeese added three runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead.  Kim Kennedy, Dani Price and Terracina scored to extend the Cowgirl lead.

A RBI by Laura Neil in the third scored Kennedy for a 6-0 lead then the Cowgirls added two more in the fourth a two RBI single to center by Courtney Hebert that scored Griffith and DiVittorio.
