A neighbor living across the street from the home owner at 1807 N. Ross was taking out trash when he observed a suspicious person lurking around the outside of the residence at 1807 N. Ross. The home owner, identified as Terry Traylor, B/M, 11/13/78, was contacted by telephone about the person his neighbor saw. Traylor walked outside his home armed with a handgun while on the telephone with the neighbor.

Traylor was confronted by the suspect, identified as Jason Raychard Williams, B/M, 8/22/84, who told Traylor not to move or he would kill him. Williams was also armed with a handgun. Traylor then shot Williams one time striking his handgun with the round ricocheting into the suspect's head.

Tyler Police say at about 9:45 Wednesday night, officers were called to the 1800 block of North Ross Avenue.

Investigators say a black male was found shot in the forehead. He was taken by ambulance to a Tyler hospital.

Details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still coming in, but police say the resident of the home fired the shot and called 911.

Lieutenant Russell Jacks with the Tyler Police Department told us the victim did not have any form of identification on him, so they are unsure of his name at this time. He said they are not releasing the resident's name until his story is confirmed.

Police say the resident is cooperating with officers, and the case is still being investigated.

Rain chances increase MondayRain chances increase Monday

By tonight, rain chances will be low. We will start with partly cloudy skies, becoming mostly clear late. Low temperatures will be in the low 70s. A few places north of I-10 will be in the 60s. It will still feel muggy overnight, thanks to the humidity. There could be some areas of patchy fog in the early morning hours on Monday. As we go through next week, the big story remains warm temperatures.
