McNeese State University has received a StormReady designation by the National Weather Service. McNeese joins the University of Louisiana-Monroe as the state's second university to receive the designation.
The weather agency says the program provides guidelines and procedures to better prepare advance communication and responses to hazardous weather events. Among the requirements for the program are a 24-hour emergency operations center, a plan to handle dangerous weather and methods to alert the public of danger.
Other StormReady sites in Louisiana include Calcasieu Parish and Lake Charles, along with the parishes of Acadia, Bossier, Caddo, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, Lafayette, Livingston, Ouachita, St. Charles, St. Landry, St. Martin and Union.
Dow Chemical's St. Charles Parish operations also have received the designation.
