On March 22, at 8:30 p.m., C.A.T. Team Sgt. Stuart Henderson conducted a stop on an SUV traveling east on I-10 near mile marker 12 for a traffic violation.
When Sgt. Henderson spoke with the driver of the SUV, Cornelius D. Warren, 36, of Bogalusa, and passengers Dujuan J. Johnson, 30, of Slidell, and Edward L. Smith, 24, of Pearl River, they began to act suspiciously.
Once Sgt. Henderson received permission from Warren to search the SUV, he allowed his K9 "Tonja" to conduct a free air sniff of the air around the SUV.
After Tonja alerted to the odor of narcotics, Sgt. Henderson conducted a search and recovered a tote bag in the passenger area of the SUV containing six large bundles of powder cocaine, weighing approximately 14 pounds, with an estimated street value of $700,000.
Warren, Johnson, and Smith were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession with intent to distribute CDS II (cocaine).
