2 suspected of vehicle theft in Lake Charles

The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office

On March 15, a 14-year-old boy was located at his home and when questioned by detectives he confirmed to stealing the rental car vehicles on Feb. 19 and March 13.  The boy was charged with 3 counts of theft of a vehicle.

After further investigation, deputies also arrested Darrell J. Welcome, 28, of Lake Charles, in connection with the vehicle thefts.  Welcome was located at a home in north Lake Charles where the rental car reported stolen was found.  Welcome was booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft of a vehicle.  He was released on a $1,500 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter. 

All vehicles reported stolen have been recovered by detectives and returned to the car rental company.

CPSO Detective Chadwick LeJune, Sr. is the lead investigator on this case, assisted by Detectives Jake Cauvin, Kardel Guidry, and Sgt. Sconnie Granger.   The investigation is continuing with more arrests possible.

Last year, 23-million dollars from the three local casinos and Delta Downs slots was pooled and then distributed by the Calcasieu Parish Gaming Revenue District.
