Nicholls gets grant for research, restoration

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Shell Oil Co. will provide a $50,000 grant to Nicholls State University for coastal research, including production of native plants for coastal restoration.

John Hollowell, deepwater executive vice President for Shell, said joint volunteer efforts headed by the company and Nicholls have planted thousands of native plants in coastal areas as part of the university's Louisiana native plant initiative.

Allyse Ferrara, associate professor of biological sciences, said Nicholls will use the grant for research and production of native plants at the Nicholls Farm for use in marsh, beach and dune restoration projects.
