Ex-Church Point housing official pleads guilty

Lafayette, La (AP) - The former Executive Director of the Church Point Housing Authority has pleaded guilty in federal court, along with an accomplice, to embezzlement of government money. Sarah Robert and accomplice Arthur Felix both pleaded guilty this week.

According to court documents, between January 2009 and January 2011, Robert and Felix embezzled over $195,000 from the Church Point Housing Authority.

Robert was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the organization.

Authorities said she wrote checks to Felix, had him endorse the checks, cash them and then return a large portion of the checks to her. Robert admitted to federal agents that her actions were the result of a gambling problem which began in late 2009.
