Black Bayou bridge update - KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Black Bayou bridge update

Statement from Steve Jiles District Administrator for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development:

Work on the Black Bayou bridge has been ongoing since the vessel was dry-docked at a New Orleans area shipyard in January."

However, the repair work is behind schedule due to weather delays, the unforeseen need for lead abatement measures and the finding that triple the planned amount of steel is required in the repairs.

It now appears that the bridge should return to service around mid-April.  Once we can establish a more definite return date, we'll issue a media release to advise citizens.

The Cameron II ferry is currently dry-docked at the Bollinger shipyard south of Carlyss for replacement of propulsion unit support plates.

It is expected that the Cameron II ferry will return to service within two weeks.

The Saharan dust is still around and is expected to be in a "unhealthy for sensitive groups" today. If you have breathing problems, or asthma, make sure to use caution if you spend any time outdoors. There will also be very warm temperatures, reaching the mid 90s. There will not be any rain to cool these temperatures down. It will likely feel like the triple digits, getting as high as 107 degrees. It will take time for the temperatures to cool down with no rain.
