RUSTON, La. (AP) - Karli West scored 21 points and Fairview held off a late Lacassine rally Saturday night for a 70-64 victory and the Lady Panthers' sixth consecutive Louisiana Girls B state championship.
Fairview (34-4) was deadly from the 3-point line, hitting 13 of 28 shots (46.4 percent). All six of West's field goals in the game came from long range. The Lady Panthers only made seven field goals inside the arc.
Lacassine (38-2), which shot 46.6 percent from the field (27 of 58), was led by Abbie Melanson's 20 points. Marcie Michalko added 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Despite shooting 17 for 40 (42.5 percent) from the free-throw stripe, Fairview was able to hold on. The Lady Panthers led 22-9 after the first quarter and by as many as 16 in the fourth. Katie Lemiux added 15 points, Maghan Cooley 13 and Ashlea Vizena 11 for the Lady Panthers.
