Lafayette, La (AP) - Two Lafayette Parish Correctional Center inmates have been captured - hours after they overpowered two deputies and escaped from the facility.
The escape occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. The two were armed with some sort of makeshift knife.
Authorities say one inmate was 22-year-old Kevin Gildhouse, who was being held on a first-degree murder charge in the 2009 shooting death of a Lafayette cab driver. The other was 29-year-old Tony Jackson, being held on armed robbery charges. Both were caught Saturday morning with aid from Lafayette police, the city marshal and U.S. marshals. One was in a store, another at a gas station near a Lafayette intersection.
The deputies overpowered in the escape were not injured.
