CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

Drivers were subjected to another traffic nightmare on I-10 and I-210 that caused many motorists to see alternate routes.

"We established a project with the Hwy 378 route between Westlake and Moss Bluff. We are trying to expand and realign that route and reconstruct a new Westport bridge." District Administrator DOTD Steve Jiles said.

Heading from Sulphur into Lake Charles (Eastbound): Map A

Take PPG Drive (Exit #26) or Westlake (Exit #27). Divert around Hwy 378 to Moss Bluff. Head back south on Hwy 171 (Hwy 14) to Lake Charles.

Heading from Iowa into Sulphur (Westbound): Map B

Take Lakeshore Drive (Exit #30A) and continue right until Lakeshore Drive becomes Shell Beach Drive. Follow signs to I-210. Take I-210 West towards Beaumont.

"Concrete barriers on I-10 will be removed on April 1, 2012," Jiles said. "Drivers will then be able to drive with all lanes open on I-10 during peak hours."

DOTD officials said motorists should expect bridge work to continue for six weeks after April 1, 2012.

"But the work will be on off peak hours and intermittently," Jiles said.
