The following is a Press Release from the Fort Polk Public Affairs Office:

The Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk offers Ammunition Amnesty Day March 16 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Amnesty items can be dropped off at the access road to the Main Installation Ammunition Holding Area (AHA) off of North Texas Ave.

Signs will be posted to direct personnel to the location. The amnesty program allows personnel to return ammunitions and explosives anonymously.

No documentation is required for turn-ins. Turns-ins will not be used as a basis for investigation or prosecution and are exempt from investigation requirements. Small arms ammunition up to and including 50 caliber may be returned to the ammunition supply point. Abandoned military ammunition and explosives larger than 50 caliber will not be moved by untrained personnel.

Contact the 705th Explosive Ordnance Detachment at 531-5505 for turn-in procedures. During non-duty hours call the military police at 531-2677.

No questions will be asked about where ammunition was found.
